How it started

On May 9th 1962 119 keen young hopefuls arrived from all around the world arrived at Halton, they included members from the West Indies, Kenya and also included three  Royal Malaysian Air Force Apprentices. Together they  took ‘The Queens Shilling’ and became members of the 101st Entry of Aircraft Apprentices at The No .1 School of Technical Training, R.A.F. Halton.

This was rapidly followed by a trip to the barber and the issuing of uniforms and ‘Initial Training Weeks’   I am sure that the drill instructors that yelled, screamed and sometimes praised would have told you, that it was they made the Entry into what they became ...SECOND TO NONE

Three years later and after a lot of hard hours of classrooms, workshops and great comradeship , on April 14th 1965, 110 members graduated,11 members were recommended for commissions, tragically K.D. Chester who was to go on to Cranwell as a Navigator was killed in an accident the day after graduation.

During the three year period four members had been discharged as ‘unable to maintain the standard of training’, three had left for medical reasons and one was in hospital during the final exams. One lucky member of the 100th Entry joined the 101st after a serious illness.

The remaining 110 went on to fulfil many varied careers.

Today

Bob Jones suggested that an interactive  chat page where  messages and information could be easily  exchanged would be a handy addition to the    web site.

So we now have a site at Yahoo Groups  called 101st Entry  You may experience a short delay between signing up and being able to post messages    on the site as all applications for membership have to be approved.   Click Here to Join or Visit the site.

Photos Needed

Gentlemen as I am unable to attend the reunion this year, please  send me your photos of the three events taking place during the reunion weekend. If you could send them in jpg format  and as large as you can, my download speed is quite fast and it would make editing them for the web site so much easier.

Also a written report on any or all three of the events  from anyone attending would be greatly appreciated
